Jet2
Jet2, known for its expertise in short-haul destinations and entrepreneurial mindset, faced ongoing issues with limited inflight stock from their previous supplier. They decided to change their inflight offerings and deliver a more personalised experience by interacting with customers before, during, and after their flights.
Traditionally, onboard retail products for short-haul flights are sourced through a single wholesaler that serves multiple airlines. Jet2 broke away from this model by establishing its own exclusive range of inflight products and services, requiring the development of an entirely new logistics operation. Despite being skilled recruiters, Jet2 recognised the need for external support to hire specialists for this new function, which fell outside their usual areas of expertise.
With over 25 years of working and recruiting in logistics, the team at Slater Austin was selected to recruit the lead role along with whole distribution centre management team.
Through very careful search and selection, Slater Austin recruited the Head of Logistics in the first instance and then the senior management roles in distribution, shift management and inventory management. Jet2 then proceeded to recruit the remaining staff required for the operation.
The state-of-the-art, 150,000 square foot Middlewich facility now employs over 300 people and delivers upwards of 25 million items annually to Jet2 flights. The transition and new operation have been deemed a great success by Jet2
